Ambarchi, who was honored in 2014 by the magazine Pitchfork was named Experimental Artist of the Year, creates carefully cultivated arrangements that gently unravel; unassuming melodies that slowly work their way through sound mutations; the result is an otherworldly, cumulative effect of patiently unfolding compositions.

Ambarchi was born into a family of Sephardic Jews from Iraq. He began his musical career as a free jazz drummer. Later, under the influence of Japanoise to the guitar and became active in the noise scene. Indeed, his music has several links to both post-techno programming and post-noise improv. His compositions move in a fog of understatement, neither settling into drones nor dissolving into a flood of noise. And despite his raw avant-punk roots, his playing has become very accessible - he takes feedback overtones from more aggressive settings and simply presents them as sound. In his pieces, which explore the feeling of incompleteness, he formulates sequences of notes that seem to demand resolution without the composer holding them back. Notes hang in the air while angular phrases are looped eccentrically. The soft touch of his notes creates a mysterious, velvety environment in which the scenes he conjures up constantly dissolve and reform. This is intelligent, thoughtful, proactive ambience.

The MPS studio is delighted that Oren Ambarchi will be coming to Villingen for this exclusive concert.
