His main inspirations included Hanns Eisler, the singer Ernst Busch, the „house music“ of his mother and also the roaring sounds of his father, the virtuoso saxophone giant Peter Brötzmann, also known as „The Teutonic Axe“ - a key figure in the European free jazz movement, FMP artist, Fluxus artist and ideologically implacable communist.

Caspar lived in fear and awe of his stern father, and he picked up the guitar, knowing full well that Peter and his peers made fun of Americanized music, especially electric guitars and the hard rock sounds that appealed to Caspar, like those of Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. The guitar became, as Caspar says, „his shield against the troubling world“. „It wasn't about virtuosity,“ Caspar continues, ‚but about love for the instrument.

Caspar had no formal education, but Hans Reichel - a friend of the family and an avant-garde guitarist who built his own instruments - showed him how to do it. Hans taught Caspar how to manipulate the workings and mechanics of the guitar. Caspar's left-handed instrument is not so much an allusion to the left-hander Hendrix but rather a technical improvement of Caspar's own playing. It allows for a stronger low end, better access to the volume control and the vibrato bar, which gives the music of CBM gives it an incomparable dynamic.

The music of Caspar Brötzmann massacre is resoundingly unique. Active since the mid-80s, ultra-heavy riffs and beats, menacing tribal vocals and a raw physical power are conjured up by these three dark and proud heads of their era. Their unbridled, unified stream of energy is captured on several records, but is even more enjoyable live.

Caspar Brötzmann has extensively and successfully emancipated himself musically from his father, with whom he recorded the album „Last Home“ in 1990. The radicality of expression in turn reflects the family ties, with the difference that Caspar's vulnerability is reflected in his compositions. He is certainly one of the most extraordinary avant-garde guitarists of his time, who has created his own unmistakable sound. Further projects with FM Einheit (Collapsing New Buildings) or Page Hamilton (Helmet). „Music that could also hang in the Louvre,“ says an old friend and pioneer of the band, Monika Döring (Loft Concerts Berlin). Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth Caspar is considered one of the best guitarists he has ever met. The band Caspar Brötzmann massacre is his life's work.
