Guitarist <strong data-start=\"498\" data-end=\"513\">Bill Orcutt<\/strong>, known for decades for his irrepressible energy and edgy playing between blues fragments, noise and radical improvisation, meets here with <strong data-start=\"670\" data-end=\"687\">Steve Shelley<\/strong>, the legendary former drummer of <strong>Sonic Youth<\/strong>, and bassist <strong data-start=\"756\" data-end=\"772\">Ethan Miller<\/strong>, who has worked with bands like <strong>Comets on Fire<\/strong> or <strong>Feral Ohms<\/strong> has shown how much eruptive power a bass line can develop.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"893\" data-end=\"1289\">Together, they form a power trio that digs deep into the American bedrock: riffs that glow like volcanic rock; rhythms that sometimes groove unwaveringly, sometimes bubble beneath the surface; harmonies that feel more like tectonic shifts than classic chord progressions. What would be jam for others becomes something much darker, rawer and more hypnotic here.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1291\" data-end=\"1719\">The music of <strong>Orcutt \/ Shelley \/ Miller<\/strong> sounds as if the basic forces of rock are being reassembled: <strong data-start=\"1399\" data-end=\"1410\">Shelley <\/strong>keeps the wheel turning, but never in the classic backbeat - rather dancing, staggered, restlessly searching. <strong data-start=\"1514\" data-end=\"1524\">Miller<\/strong>\u2019s bass lines rise and fall like tides. And <strong data-start=\"1575\" data-end=\"1585\">Orcutt<\/strong> cuts through the air with raw, violently trembling guitar figures, sometimes eruptive, sometimes almost melodic, but always unmistakable.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1721\" data-end=\"1982\">Between West Coast shadows, heavy blues echoes, krautrock trance and a pinch of punk dissidence, the result is a <strong data-start=\"1831\" data-end=\"1855\">\u201ebig rock statement\u201c<\/strong>, that is both fun and a head-turner. Accessible enough to get stuck in - wild enough to push boundaries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1984\" data-end=\"2143\"><strong data-start=\"1984\" data-end=\"2013\">Orcutt \/ Shelley \/ Miller<\/strong> in the <strong data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2031\">MPS Studio<\/strong>: a trio that sounds like a freshly excavated monolith.
