Marcela Lucatelli, Jonas Engel, Dominik Mahnig - LIVE CONCERT
Marcela Lucatelli is changing the jazz landscape - with radical vocal experiments and pulsating avant-garde jazz.
In her new trio, the Brazilian singer meets the German saxophonist and electronic artist Jonas Engel and the Swiss percussionist Dominik Mahnig. The exceptional artist with Brazilian roots joins forces here with two award-winning, innovative musicians from the European jazz scene. Together they transcend musical boundaries and open up spaces for new sensory experiences.
The result: an elegant yet raw tapestry of sound in which jazz, experimental music and free improvisation interweave to create a captivating, transformative experience. Lucatelli, Engel and Mahnig permeate each other - and their audience. Sometimes they give each other space, sometimes they demand it - smoothly and defiantly at the same time. They bring music back to the ground of immediacy - raw, genuine, forceful. Music not as an escape from everyday life, but as an invitation to engage with reality.
The three made their celebrated debut at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival at the Royal Danish Playhouse. The result is a remarkable live album - a musical work that captures the intense interaction with the Danish audience and much more.
Marcela Lucatelli is a formative figure on the international music scene. She combines new compositional approaches, vocal innovations and often politically charged performances. For her, the stage is more than a place of artistic expression - it is a place of resistance, a battleground for art and attitude. She explores the extreme possibilities of her voice in almost two ways - between gentle harmonies, threatening breath sounds and twisted melodies. With her album „Necromancy“, which shows the term „vocal jazz“ in new, even uncomfortable colors, she won the prize for „Vocal Jazz Release of the Year“ at the Danish Music Awards 2023.
Jonas Engel is a visionary saxophonist and composer who works at the interface of acoustic and electronic sound production. He explores new acoustic territories with extended playing techniques, custom-built instruments and sonic preparations.
Dominik Mahnig is an award-winning drummer whose sensitive, agile playing supports melodies with colorful sounds - and at the same time subtly rubs the music against the rhythm.
The concert will be recorded live!
