Where there is light, there is also shadow.
On this evening, the former teacher and historian Wolfgang Heitner about the prisoner-of-war camp (STALAG V B), which is located in the immediate vicinity of the SABA production facilities existed. It will provide insights into the everyday lives of people from different nations who were forced to work here, including for the company SABA. This involves the camp site on which the residential area was recently built. Von-Richthofen Park was created in order to document the situation in Villingen during the National Socialist regime as well as individual fates and the involvement of the company SABA in this dark era. The lecture is accompanied by historical images.
After a moderated Q&A session, the audience will also have the opportunity to put their own questions to Wolfgang Heitner to place.
Without SABA would be the internationally renowned MPS Studio would have been unthinkable later. Groundbreaking photographs were taken here, including the series „Jazz Meets the World“, where Western jazz musicians recorded together with artists from Africa, South America and Asia - an origin of what we now call „world music“.
As early as the early 1960s, Villingen welcomed important black jazz musicians from the USA and Canada, including Oscar Peterson, Milt Buckner or Nathan Davis. These encounters resulted in close friendships, as the example of Oscar Peterson shows: The world star of jazz piano regularly returned to his friend Hans-Georg Brunner-Schwer, SABA heir and the founder of the MPS Studios, to record masterpieces in a relaxed atmosphere.
This shows that music connects and overcomes prejudices - an alternative to racism and exclusion.
