Uli Johannes Kieckbusch, composer and pianist, has so far performed two concerts together with the percussion legend Günter Baby Sommer played in the MPS studio. Last year, the two celebrated their 150th birthday with a big concert in Wuppertal.

This time, Kieckbusch is bringing a piano luminary into the studio: his former piano mentor Barbara Brieger from the Trossingen University of Music. The program will mainly feature Kieckbusch's four-hand piano works, which leave plenty of room for improvisation.

Kieckbusch conceived and organized various concert series. In 2020, he left Baden-Württemberg and moved to Wuppertal, where he founded the
took over the artistic direction of the concert association Unerhört! e.V. With Cecil Taylor improvising together was probably the most formative musical-improvisational experience for Kieckbusch; in terms of composition, it was the encounter with Morton Feldman.

Barbara Brieger was born in Brazil and, after studying piano in Sao Paulo, was a scholarship holder at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. She then taught in Rio de Janeiro and was in demand in Brazil as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. In 1963, she came to the Trossingen University of Music as a DAAD scholarship holder in order to obtain a degree that was also recognized in Germany. She began teaching at the university 3 years later and only ended her teaching commitment in 2013, 50 years after her matriculation. She was also Barbara Brieger artistically active in many different ways, not only as a soloist, but also as a soloist with orchestra. She is a sophisticated sound artist who knows how to distinguish and master the finest nuances of sound. This makes her a sought-after accompanist and chamber musician. Uli Johannes Kieckbusch, who is now one of the few improvisers who place great emphasis on sound culture, also benefits from this. He began his piano studies in Trossingen in 1974, and of course studied piano with Barbara Brieger.
