FIRE! (Sweden) & NOAH DIEMER TRIO (Germany) - LIVE CONCERT
THE CONCERT IS SOLD OUT!
With Fire! from Sweden and the Noah Diemer Trio, two trio formations meet for the third time in one evening as part of our TRIO EXPANDED program series - an internationally established trio and a regional up-and-coming trio. The Noah Diemer Trio will open the evening, after a short changeover break the MPS stage will belong entirely to the formation Fire!
The evening therefore not only offers the musicians a special opportunity for intensive listening and exchange, but also challenges the audience: Improvisation plays a central role in the playing of both trios and demonstrates in an exemplary way on our stage how wonderfully versatile it can be if you are prepared to listen and give each other space.
The Swedish trio Fire!, consisting of Mats Gustafsson, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin, has earned a special place in the world of music. Fire! was founded in 2009 to develop a new approach to improvised music that draws on influences from free jazz, psychedelic rock and noise. They released their first album in the same year You liked me five minutes ago on the Norwegian label Rune gramophone, all their releases, including the current album Will, as well as everything from its offshoot, the Big Band Fire! Orchestra published!
Fire! bring heavy, dark and intensely burning music, whether you call it jazz or rock, to stages in Europe, the USA, Canada, Brazil and Japan, and have already worked with heavyweights like Jim O'Rourke, Oren Ambarchi, Stephen O'Malley (SunnO))) and David Sandström worked together. Her new album Will takes the trio back to basics; a saxophone, bass and drums meet with a bare, raw and powerful recording by the master himself, Steve Albini together.
Also with the Noah Diemer Trio with Noah Diemer on the piano, Jan Blikslager on the double bass and David Giesel on percussion from the Stuttgart University of Music, everything revolves around improvisation. The three young musicians describe their interplay as a „collective conversation“, whereby the medium of music becomes an opportunity for them to „tell honest stories, share feelings and speak directly to the audience“. They not only locate the roots of their music in contemporary jazz, but also draw on classical composers from the Impressionist and Romantic periods.
The concert will be recorded live!
For the realization of the program series TRIO EXPANDED we thank the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, the Villingen-Schwenningen Office for Culture and the Freiburg Regional Council for their support as part of their music sponsorship.
