A Swedish trio around mastermind Mats Gustafsson

The members of Gush are very well coordinated: The group consists of three of the leading artists on the Swedish improv scene, Mats Gustafsson (saxophone), Sten Sandell (piano) and Raymond Strid (drums). Surprise is one element that creates tension, but there is something else. It's in the way the three of them understand each other and how they pick up the mental thread that each of them unravels. Maybe it's because they've been together since 1988. But time has not dampened their impulses, I'll give them that. The creativity is still ripe. And that is what makes their music so lively and stimulates the senses. Gush has worked with Sofia Jernberg, Paul Lovens, Barry Guy, Günther Christmann, Sven-Åke Johansson and Phil Wachsmann.

The trio moves with great openness and permeability. Ilumina - with Leandro Hernández Waber at the piano, Jonas Drobczynski on drums and Mina Lichtenberg on bass - within the sound spaces they create. Their compositions are influenced by classical piano music and Colombian folklore, among other things - sensitively interwoven with the aesthetics of contemporary jazz. Supported by their empathetic interplay, the three musicians take risks and create new freedom in the field of tension between composition and improvisation, between structure and impulsiveness.
