There are bands that play beautiful, intense concerts, take a bow, and go home—and there are bands that burst through doors, make time stand still, and etch themselves into the audience’s memory with a clear sense of purpose. Schnellertollermeier They are that kind of band. Anyone who has seen them live will confirm this, and anyone who tries to describe their music usually uses adjectives like overwhelming, minimalist, brutal, precise, monumental, angry, controlled, captivating or radical. Bassist Andi Schnellmann, guitarist Manuel Troller, and drummer David Meier They succeed in reconciling these contradictions and forging them into a new, restless order. Their concerts are energetic outbursts born of the tension between modern composition and free improvisation, and behind the doors the band opens lie new, uncharted landscapes of minimal music, avant-garde, and electronic influences, infused with elements of Krautrock and the directness of punk. This has been making waves since their 2008 debut, *Holz*; the audience is glued to the wall, and Julian Cowley from the English WIRE Magazine suspects that telepathic magic lies behind the clairvoyant interplay of the three Swiss musicians. Here, no concept is set to music; here, pure music flows, possessing a will of its own. The traditional power dynamics between drums, bass, and guitar are Schnellertollermeier consistently eliminated. As a result, the guitar at times takes on the role of the drums as the melodic, sharp-edged centerpiece of the rhythm section, while the drums themselves seem to be following a plan of their own. The bass either blends inseparably with the frequencies of its neighbors or becomes a polyphonic protagonist, so that it’s no longer possible to tell where one instrument ends and another begins. There are no solos, only tightly interwoven, high-energy passages brimming with a desire to escalate. The three Swiss musicians have consistently followed this path across their four albums to date, earning themselves a firm place on international festival stages with their genre-bending work.
