100 YEARS OF RADIO – Live with Tubong (Friday)
TUBONG! “Sound transducers, wave riders and apparatus builders”.
A musical-literary journey through time to the great SABA exhibition at the Franciscan and 100 years of radio.
SABA, MPS and all kinds of wireless from Hildegard von Bingen to Herbolzheimer.
Just like their idols Duke Ellington, J.S. Bach and Eugen Cicero, TUBONG’s musical program is a journey through time to historical sources of inspiration.
This time they travel to the origins of radio and its inventors, transmitters and receivers; to the birth of the SABA company; to the founders of the MPS label and, last but not least, to the musicians and musical styles that found worldwide distribution and hearing via the apparatuses.
There will be a reunion with hits penned by MPS heroes like Volker Kriegel or Peter Herbolzheimer, legendary sounds from the “Jazz meets the World” era. Inspired by the “Early Music Meets Jazz” section, witty articles on the topics of radio and jazz by Albert Einstein, Bert Brecht and the “Jazz Popes” Michael Naura and Joachim Ernst Berendt, complemented by curiosities from the cultural interstices of the history of music and technology.
