Mark Ernestus‘ Ndagga Rhythm Force & Lamin Fofana - LIVE CONCERT
We present a double concert with a top-class line-up: The opening concert - in cooperation with the Schwenningen Municipal Gallery - New York artist and musician Lamin Fofana. In the second part of the concert, we look forward to the legendary Mark Ernestus’ Ndagga Rhythm Force.
Lamin Fofana is a New York-based musician and artist who creates electronic soundscapes between ambient, dub and experimental club music. His pieces weave beats, field recordings and archive material into dense, atmospheric compositions that address themes such as migration, memory and belonging. Fofana's music invites you to immerse yourself - sometimes meditative and floating, sometimes deeply pulsating - and opens up spaces beyond the everyday.
Fofana has made an international name for himself, particularly at the interface between art and music: he was represented at the Berlin Atonal Festival in 2024, exhibited at Tate Liverpool (2022), documenta 14 (2017), the Venice Biennale (2017) and Haus der Kunst Munich (2021). He was also nominated for the Preis der Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin, and was a fellow of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Fofana also hosts a monthly radio program on NTS Radio, an online broadcaster based in London. Fofana's sound installation „Works in Metal“ can currently be seen in the exhibition „The Sound of Sculpture as Society“ at the Städtische Galerie Schwenningen. On Saturday, November 15th takes place there at 11 a.m. a Artist talk takes place.
After a short changeover break Mark Ernestus’ Ndagga Rhythm Force brings the energy of Senegal to the stage: trance-like Sabar polyrhythms meet the hypnotic depth of Berlin dub techno. Ernestus, known as co-founder of Basic Channel, Chain Reaction, Main Street and Rhythm & Sound, combines his electronic vision with the virtuosity of musicians like Bada Seck, Serigne Mamoune Seck and Mbene Diatta Seck.
The new album Khadim shows Mark Ernestus’ Ndagga Rhythm Force The band's instrumentation is reduced, yet focused and all the more powerful - rousing, raw and downright futuristic. Live, this promises to be an electrifying experience between archaic drumming and electronic club aesthetics.
