On December 13, 2025 the MPS-Studio-Villingen celebrates its three-year anniversary with a very special concert: We welcome the legendary pianist Monty Alexander, one of the great voices of jazz piano.
Monty Alexander can look back on a career spanning over six decades. Born in Kingston (Jamaica), he formed his very own style between Caribbean rhythms and American jazz at an early age and has played with the biggest names in jazz history - from Dizzy Gillespie about Sonny Rollins to Frank Sinatra. Today he is one of the most influential jazz pianists in the world.
For Villingen, Monty Alexander has developed a special significance: On the recommendation of Oscar Peterson from the beginning of the 1970s for MPS Records recorded a series of albums. To this day, these recordings are among the artistic highlights of the legendary label from the Black Forest and anchor Alexander deeply in the history of the city.
The fact that he is now returning to Villingen on the occasion of our anniversary is a special honor for us - and a moment that connects the past, present and future of jazz.
In the lounge from 18:30 and after the concert, cool rare groove pearls will be
from the SABA-MPS repertoire with the:
DJs
Rainer Trüby (Compost Records)
Stephan Steigleder (Universal Music / Deutsche Grammophon Berlin)
