THE DOGMATICS (Aus/De)

For many years, the Sydney-based Chris Abrahams, pianist with the Australian cult band The Necks used his European tours as a springboard for longer stays in Kai Fagaschinski's adopted home of Berlin. After appreciating each other's work for some time, they began working together in 2007 in a friend's piano-lined kitchen. Until the release of their debut album „The Sacrifice For The Music Became Our Lifestyle“, their musical gatherings were a rather private affair for several years when The Dogmatics and toured England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland.

While Chris Abrahams especially for his distinctive, repetitive piano playing as a member of The Necks is known, has Kai Fagaschinski in recent years has focused more on compositional projects such as The International Nothing and The Magic I.D. concentrated. In their duo, they embark on an off-road journey, one could also say an expedition. Their approach is an open process of delicate sonic exploration in which the fusion of lyricism and abstraction never needs to be negotiated. While her debut „The Sacrifice ...“ showed a broad spectrum of short, sometimes absurd stories, the new album „Chop Of The Tops“ deep into the nature of sound. And these sounds seem to be otherworldly substances, perhaps liquids, navigated and observed by two true alchemists. Time is stretched towards silence before reaching uncanny terrain. The measuring instruments are still a piano and a clarinet. Instead of examining different parameters, they subtly overlap and echo into each other.

This promises to be a very promising evening with the Bösendorfer Grand Imperial!
