Lionsclub-Schwenningen invites Mössinger to the MPS studio

On the initiative and with the support of the Schwenningen Lions Club the jazz pianist Johannes Mössinger made a guest appearance on the Bösendorfer Grand Imperial in the MPS studio, which was filled to capacity, on 5.10.2023.

After an introduction on the one hand to the musical history of the studio, and on the other hand to the industrial history of SABA on the part of the MPS-Studio e.V., an unforgettable concert followed on the concert grand piano that has already been played by jazz and classical legends such as Friedrich Gulda, Monty Alexander or Cecil Taylor.

Mössinger convinced with wonderful own compositions, which he skillfully presented. In particular, his homage to the US modern jazz legend Thelonious Monk was fascinating in a very personal and soulfully accented composition. The musician knew how to demand the entire tonal range from the great wild expressionist instrument: the softness, the vulnerability, the exactness, the hardness, the depths. In two varied sets full of playing joy, Mössinger delivered an impressive fan of sound colors. Thus the evening was a rousing declaration of love to the Grand Imperial and the piano jazz of the Blue Note classics of the 50s and 60s – interpreted with a modern, exact handwriting.

Only after an encore did the enthusiastic audience bid farewell to the likeable Freiburg pianist for the evening – but would surely have enjoyed listening to him for hours longer. So we are already looking forward to a musical reunion.

The wonderful evening was rounded off atmospherically by the many small details that make the historic MPS studio as a venue as unique as it is worthy of preservation: Among them the listed baloon chairs in the concert hall, in which the audience:inside Mössinger listened as spellbound as they were comfortable, and which lend a special flair to the musical experience. But also the beautiful, freshly restored bar of the studio, from which cultivated drinks were served, advanced again this time to a meeting point for exciting conversations as well as a meeting point between audience and musicians. In this way, the concert once again became an overall experience for everyone.

We thank Johannes Mössinger for the concert. Likewise, the very positive, attentive and generous audience, rarely have we been able to experience so clearly the friendly support for our concern to repair the unique cultural monument MPS studio and to preserve it for many more generations. Thank you for your motivational feedback!

A special thanks goes to Thomas Fiehn and the Schwenningen Lions Club from whose ranks not only the fee for the pianist was paid. The organization of the concert as a joint excursion of the club to the MPS studios was also an idealistic but also financial support for the operating club that can hardly be overestimated. For this a very big applause and thank you on behalf of MPS-Studio e.V.
