David Friedman 80th anniversary tour with the Generations Trio

When someone turns 80 years old, they have a lot to tell, firstly about the past, what they haven't already done:

Projects with the bandoneon player Dino Saluzzi, or with the vibraphonist Dave Samuels and so many other great musicians enriched his career, and are extensively documented alongside his own albums.

There are numerous recordings and performances with Geri Allen, Jane Ira Bloom, Bob James, Charlie Mariano, Joe Henderson, Hubert Laws, or Chet Baker, Horace Silver and Wayne Shorter, the jazz legends to whom Friedman itself already counts.

But also studio recordings with popular artists such as Billy Joel, Yoko Ono, Aretha Franklin, George Benson or Nile Rodgers Chic.

In August 2007, he was appointed KOSA International Percussion Festival with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the art of vibraphone playing and education, while in 2008 he was honored at the Ludwig Albert Marimba Festival was honored in Belgium for his life's work. Friedman has retained a curiosity that keeps him looking to the future.

The three generations with shooting star Tilo Weber on drums, the sought-after sideman Oliver Potratz on bass and the jazz professor David Friedman on the vibraphones, develop an amazingly orchestral band sound that is fresh and hip and at the same time firmly rooted in the deep tradition of jazz.

That with the Generations Trio current album recorded in Sardinia „Surge of silence“  is the happy occasion of a birthday tour. MPS-Studio e.V. is delighted to welcome this jazz legend to Villingen, with an instrument that is also used by MPS has a tradition, the vibraphone! The Dave Pike Set as well as the Michael Naura Trio released wonderful albums with this instrument on MPS already in the 60s and 70s.
