VERENA MARISA & FRED FRITH (D/UK) LIVE-CONCERT
Verena Marisa is one of the few female theremin players in the world. After classical training on the violin and piano with a perceived narrowness of interpretation and at times a high level of technical drill, she found her musical liberation in the contactless and gesturally controlled theremin. Beyond genre limitations, she uses it melodically and vocally and as a field of experimentation for innovative playing techniques.
Her artistic practice is characterized by meditation and the conscious perception of subtle sensory stimuli. The theremin functions as biofeedback for a deep body awareness.
Thematically, she explores nature, dreams and transcendence. She associates otherworldly flora and fauna and floating metaphysical states with her music. Her profound background as a film composer often shines through.
For this evening, Marisa Fred Frith a pioneer of improvised electric guitar who has had a significant influence on the development of experimental music worldwide since the 1960s. In his 50-year career, he has composed for numerous renowned ensembles and award-winning films. Fred Frith works according to the principle of radical openness: composition as a process with an open end, the „work“ as an unfinished, constantly changing entity.
Weaving together Verena Marisa and Fred Frith Their roots in avant-garde, progressive rock, classical music, film music and experimental electronics create a multi-layered sound space. With an unconditional presence, they reflect the current feeling of the world between chaos and consolation.
